Finding the Right Homes for Retired Hounds in the
Delaware, Maryland, D.C., Virginia Area ...and Beyond!

Our group does not have an on-site kennel facility. This means that once we bring a dog down on a haul from the race track adoption kennel, it must go straight into its forever home or into a foster home. It also means that when someone gives up their greyhound in our area, we must find foster home space to keep that dog until we find it a new home. Consequently the number of hounds we can place each year is directly related to the number of foster homes we have available. Fostering is an excellent way to get to know greyhounds, and it is actually a lot of fun. If you think you've got what it takes, read on! Foster Family Goal Prepare the greyhounds in their care for their forever families and homes. GEGR’s expectation of each foster family is to facilitate the transition of each dog from racing dog to couch potato and to support the group in finding a new home for the dog. We also require frequent communication with the foster coordinator, the homes-to-hounds matcher, and the other foster families in the group. We do have a fostering contract so that expectations are clear on both sides.
Please be aware that fostering for our group will require some driving on your part. We are very conscious of the fact that our adoption area is wide, and we do not expect foster families to drive their fosters all over the state. We may ask you to meet volunteers halfway or come to the "groomathons" in Lusby, MD to get your fosters (especially your first foster).
